Caithness Harbours & Piers

Posted: March 20th, 2014 | Tags: | Posted in: Photography

If there’s one thing Caithness isn’t short of, it’s harbours. The first herring boom occurred in Caithness around 1790, but the peak of Herring fishing in Caithness happened in 1907 when 250,000 tons of Herring were landed, cured and exported all over Europe and Russia.

This fishing legacy has left Caithness with an abundance of man-made coastal features, which I have very much enjoyed photographing over the past couple of years.

Here are some of my favourites.
